Nursery & sleepSwaddles & wraps
Swaddles, zip-up swaddle pods and muslin wraps for the newborn weeks, when many babies settle better feeling snug.
Swaddle only up to the shoulders, never over the head, and keep it loose enough at the hips for the legs to bend up and out.
Stop swaddling as soon as baby shows signs of trying to roll, and always put a swaddled baby to sleep on their back.
A swaddle counts as a layer. Use a lighter TOG in warm rooms and don’t add blankets on top.
As soon as baby starts showing signs of rolling, which is often around 3 to 4 months. Then move on to a baby sleeping bag.
Many parents find them easier than wrapping a muslin, especially at night. Check the sizing so it’s snug around the chest but loose at the hips.
